Description : The book is very well written, giving the reader a educational tour supplemented with a good variety of well composed and detailed photographs. I really like the fact that the photographs are not the oft-expected tourist-like shots or the professional studio-like shots so prevalent in books of art and architecture. It appears to me that a lot of time and effort was put into this book. I am aware of the fact that the author is in fact an architect and for that reason he has a specific photographic sensitivity that makes his book even more interesting. I have learned more about Indonesian art and architecture, including a very informative section on building materials than I would have ever expected. This book is by far one of the best productions about the works of a design firm.

Abstract : Incoming sunlight into space will result in excessive glare. it is can be overcome by setting the entry of sunlight. This setting can be used second skin(secondary skin) of the building. The wealth of art ornaments archipelago potential as This seconds skin design inspiration. This study begins with the study of a variety of art ornaments Archipelago the lattice through the study of literature and search through the search engines on the internet.
Variety ornament pattern obtained redrawn using progeCAD 2009 Smart program and modeled on some conditions of space with SketchUp. Furthermore, the simulating penetration of sunlight into the room at 9 am, 12 noon, and 3 pm. The results were analyzed visually through shading patterns that occur in the interior of the model space. The use of secondary skin with three motifs generally reduces the intensity of light entry thus reducing the level of glare. Spatial orientation affects the depth the entry of sunlight. The use of motifs with geometric patterns tend to be large causing a greater shadow effect so as to create a dramatic atmosphere yet can interfere with the view.Room atmosphere can be created by a variety of shadows that occur when sunlight into the room. Ornaments with pattern simple and has a rhythmic repetition will create a more neutral atmosphere. Ornament with an area of large perforations that will lead to a brighter atmosphere

3. Title : ORNAMENT
Authors : Christina A. Noble, Matthias Kohler, et al

Place : New York
Publisher : AIA.
Volume : 2
Abstract : Architects are increasingly faced with shrinking influence, often only designing the building skin or an individual tenant improvement, but not necessarily both and not at the same time. As a result, modernist desires for a direct connection between interior space and the exterior envelope can no longer be controlled by a single architect and the concept of a unified architectural project no longer has primary relevance to contemporary construction processes. This has led many architects to focus on architecture as a manipulation of surfaces as a relevant means for design and construction today.

4. Title : GOOD DESIGN—IT ALL ADDS UP
Authors : Royal Institute of British Architects
Year : 2009
Place : London
Publisher : Royal Institute of British Architects
Abstract : What is the value of architecture? Is it worth the expense? Is design dispensable? As expenditure on construction schemes of all kinds, from schools to hospitals to regeneration projects, comes under the microscope, we hear these questions more and more. Maybe design has become synonymous with luxury and the high street, and its role in making ordinary objects desirable and expensive has overshadowed that of making things and places safe, understandable, durable, energy-efficient and affordable. The evidence assembled here counters the argument that design is a luxury in the production of the built environment, especially in straitened times. What this report brings to light is the true value of good architecture. Design that resolves problems and answers needs will pay for itself over a building’s lifetime. Good architecture has its price. But bad architecture – or no architecture at all – will cost you more. We summarise the research assessing the value of good design; include case studies that provide the evidence of good practice; and show how clients and those who live and work in a building can get the most out of it when it is created together with an architect.
